In 1932 the women of Thailand were the first to get the right to vote amongst the Asians. Thus one can easily understand that a Thai wife is a powerful woman who has been a part of this active society for years now.
Though there are no limitations legally for Thai wife yet the participation remains low in certain areas due to poor level of education, cultural taboos and social barriers and the power issues with the opposite sex. They are generally very hard working and is a source of family income. The women are involved in a wide range of activities and have excelled in many fields and industries.
A Thai wife knows how to cook, how to wash, how to run the house hold, how to take care of kids as well as how to flourish business and achieve success. They are determined about whatever they do but at the same time dedicated to the family too.
In certain parts of Thailand people have not progressed or updated their way of thinking and the women of those areas are deprived of their right to lead their life of freedom.
In the sphere of entrepreneurship the percentage of women are about 47 % and most of them are very active but the concentration of the female population of more at the lower levels which does not pay up to the mark. This is mainly because of slight gender discrimination that still persists here..
The percentage of women acting as head of the house hold is about 24% which is largest in the south East Asia. A Thai wife is also very hardworking and consistent in terms of performance and if given the opportunity can do much better. A Thai wife is not only limited to the boundaries of the home even when their partner are working. They prefer to work for themselves and be independent but not at the cost of their families.
Due to a lot of marital abuses and rapes a Thai wife generally does all sort of works even if it pays low. These sorts of harassments have increased the percentage of prostitution, human trafficking and other sexual crimes. During and after the Vietnam war Thailand became a place of recreation for many and almost came to be known for its sex tourism practices. Generally foreigners from United States and parts of Europe prefer a Thai wife for their retired life. To escape the poverty and pain many Thai women enters into such relations. Most of the Thai women who entered into these type of relationship were former prostitutes during the war thus to escape that also many opted for this sort of alliance.
The various surveys conducted and the data collected from them shows that females are married at an early age. The government is working hard to improve the situation of female population and has taken certain steps for their protection but more needs to be done in order to provide them with peace and security.
